Why do lights in your home flicker but not go all of the way out?

  • Loose wiring. If a wire connection is loose, it can cause the current to flow erratically, which can cause the lights to flicker.
    Overloaded circuits. If too many appliances or electronics are plugged into one circuit, it can overload the circuit and cause the lights to flicker.
  • Circuit breaker going bad. If a circuit breaker has loose connections, the arcing can cause bulbs to flicker.
  • Problems with the light switch. A faulty light switch can also cause the lights to flicker.
  • Problems with the light bulb. A loose or defective light bulb can also cause the lights to flicker.
